Tremont Treks

Tremont Treks allow students to be fully immersed in the learning process. The Great Smoky Mountains Institute (GSMIT) at Tremont is located within Great Smoky Mountain National Park, just three miles from Townsend, TN, and about 45 minutes from Knoxville, TN.

With hands-on experiences facilitated by GSMIT instructors and Mehlville School District teachers traveling from our schools, participants will be guided to investigate and interact in the environment around them.

During their Tremont Trek adventure, students will gain a deeper understanding of environmental science while developing critical thinking skills, resilience and a sense of stewardship for the environment.

The 2027 Tremont Treks are open to students in 5th grade. 

Join us to learn more at one of two family information nights: 

Wednesday, September 23 or Tuesday, September 29; 6:30-7:30 p.m. 

The informational meetings are held at the district's administrative office located at 2900 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO 63125.

This is the white two story building north of the Mehlville High School campus. We will meet in the main level conference room.

Meetings include a slide presentation and time for questions. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend with their families.

The Spring 2027 Tremont Treks are scheduled as follows:

March 30-April 2 (Beasley, Bierbaum, Forder, Hagemann, MOSAIC and Trautwein)

April 13-16 (Blades, OES, Point, Rogers, Wohlwend)

Registration for all opens Thursday, October 1 at 10 a.m. 

All registrants must be enrolled for their Trek with their attending school through the Community Education registration platform, Arux.
